The more time you spend in Oman, the more it sneaks up on you and draws you in. Even as we were leaving, we were planning to go back. — Anthony Horowitz

We had a terrific family holiday (two grown-up children) in Oman organised by Shaw Travel. The brief was to show us some of the country, whilst leaving time to relax comfortably by the sea and possibly play some golf. It fulfilled all our expectations. A really interesting country to look around, with surprising variety from the souks to the mountains to the thrill of the desert in the Wahiba sands – not to mention the lovely people. The hotel by the sea was wonderfully comfortable and spoiling – it was voted one of our best family holidays. — Julia Harland

We had a wonderful trip and were very impressed with the country. The holiday went without a single hitch and the Al Bustan and Al Husn were fantastic. The highlight of the holiday though was the five day trip to the interior. We had a wonderful guide in Akram and he couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. We kept mainly to our itinerary but he also took us to other places and really showcased his country. Everyone was welcoming, we felt safe and secure at all times even when left to our own devices in souks and villages and never once did we feel anything but joy at seeing such a lovely place. We never felt uneasy, were never bothered by people trying to sell us things and, because we dressed appropriately, never looked at with anything but smiles. The scenery was beautiful and so varied, the quality of service was excellent and your attention to detail and organisation made it a relaxing, exciting and very good holiday. Thank you for giving us such a hassle free holiday and we now understand you passion for this special place. — Christine and Gordon White

We had a wonderful honeymoon in Oman, very well organised by Shaw Travel. Our guides were very friendly and enthusiastic and keen to show us their beautiful country. From climbing vast sand dunes and swimming in palm-fringed wadis, to listening to musicians on the oud and wandering around deserted villages and forts, it was a fascinating fortnight. — Henrietta Reid nee. Sitwell

Sonia Shaw has arranged two trips to Oman for us, involving Muscat, Salalah and desert expeditions. They were impeccably organised and Sonia calmly dealt with last minute changes by us of our plans. Local drivers arranged by her were knowledgeable, competent and courteous. We will always seek her advice and support when visiting Oman. — C. Grose Esq, Gloucestershire

Our over-riding impression and memory of the country is of huge craggy bare mountains with Wadis, mostly dry but some with water and pools. The people were friendly and totally different from those in other Arab countries. We were never pestered by beggars or touts trying to sell things we didn’t want. Likewise the shop keepers let you look without pressurising you to buy. On numerous occasions we were asked what we thought of Oman and thanked for coming to visit their country. — R. Faber, Berkshire

The itinerary proposed by Sonia Shaw and Shaw Travel for our visit to Oman in February 2010 was a perfect introduction to fascinating contrasts of this beautiful country – an excellent balance of rest and relaxation and discovery of the dramatic landscapes of the Wahiba Sands and the forts and mountains. The arrangements for our whole journey worked seamlessly and most efficiently. The two driver/guides engaged to show us round Muscat and the interior of the country were not only charming companions but very knowledgeable. We are definitely planning to return to Oman and would unhesitatingly use Shaw Travel again. — Lord Phillimore, London

We had a fascinating relaxing family holiday in Oman, very well organized by Sonia Shaw. — Her Grace, the Duchess of Norfolk

Sonia Shaw’s knowledge of The Oman is unrivalled and her attention to detail exemplary. A great holiday in this beautifully unspoilt country. — Gareth Quarry, Richmond

I can’t tell you how pleased we were with the service that we received from Shaw Travel. It was swift, courteous and reliable. Better still the holiday was fantastic. — R. Johnston, London

Last autumn a group of six of us were looking for January sunshine. After several attempts we came across Shaw Travel and e-mailed asking for help. We wanted sunshine, interest, beauty, a great hotel, not too much air travel time, the less time change the better and a comfortable, reasonable club class flight. By mid-day the following day Sonia Shaw sent us a proposal which barely changed and as a result we had one of the best holidays ever. Oman we loved, the climate we loved, the Chedi turned out to be a sensationally good hotel and the travel arrangements impeccable. We agreed on leaving that we would be back next January and we will. — Sir Derek Hornby

We have just returned from 5 blissful days at Zighy Bay which was recommended and booked for us by Shaw Travel. It was everything we had hoped for and more. We were met at the airport where our bags were collected and visa’s organised whilst we relaxed with a wonderful refreshing drink.
On arrival we were introduced to our charming and very helpful butler Julius and from then on it was full relaxation. Sonia Shaw recommended dinner at Sense on the Edge which was an evening none of us will forget, the Arabic menu was sensational. Our dinner on top of the wine Tower was also very special and private. Being foodies with husbands that enjoy cooking cooking the Arabic cookery course proved fun and informative with chef Ali.
Our room was amazing, all the food especially breakfast was fantastic and we left feeling we had been away for much, much longer.
Thank you to all concerned especially George and Danny who also looked after us wonderfully.

Many thanks to Sonia who co-ordinated our recent wonderful relaxing indulgent break to the Six senses, Zighy Bay. As well as booking our villa she arranged for us to be met at Dubai airport and driven across the border into Oman. Sonia also pre-booked a table for us at ‘sense of the Edge’ the hotel’s excellent signature restaurant, which was a good call as it was fully booked during our short visit. Zighy bay is low key luxury at its best – gracious and attentive service from all the staff, great rooms – rustic rather than glitzy – each with their own sun loungers and private plunge pool, lovely beach, fantastic spa. Despite being 85% full the hotel was very relaxing and quiet – although it was busier from Thursday when Dubai based European families arrived and there were then more young children about. — Mrs D, London
